More viewers are watching videos online than ever
before! On an average day in December
2010, according to a report by comScore.com, more than 88.6 million people watched
video online. That figure was up 32 percent from the year before. Total viewing
sessions in the same time period were 5.8 billion, which was up 13 percent from
Dec. 2009. The report states, "The average American spent more than 14 hours
watching online video in December, a 12 percent increase from last year, and
streamed a record 201 videos, an 8 percent increase."
"Video
ads now reach 7 out of 10 Americans online and nearly 1 out of 2 Americans
nationwide each month," as reported in comScore.com's 2010 US Digital Year in Review. 5.9 billion ads were published on networks,
averaging 40 ads per viewer. This trend of online viewing was evidenced in the weeks leading up
to the Super Bowl when many advertisers previewed their Super Bowl ads online.
TubeMogul, one of
the nation's top video ad networks just raised $10 million dollars in October
of 2010 to expand their video ad platform, making it bigger and better, according to an article in Business Insider. Revenues
for 2010 were expected to come in at 10 million dollars. Video advertising accounts for one in six
videos viewed online.
