Interviewer: Hi. I
am Scott Shields with Metro Brokers TV and I am joined here today with Terri
Smith out of our Greeley
office. Terri, thank you for coming down
and talking with us today.
Terri Smith: Oh, thank you for having us.
Interviewer: Tell me about yourself. How did you get started with Metro Brokers?
Terri Smith: Well, I was an acting office manager at the
office I was before this and I was trying to recruit one of the Metro Brokers
over to work for me and I wasn't having any luck and she finally convinced me
what a good deal Metro Brokers was, so in 1997 I opened my office with Metro
Brokers and I haven't looked back.
Interviewer: And you are up in the Greeley office, correct?
Terri Smith: We are, yeah.
Interviewer: Okay. Now,
I hear that the Greeley
office is doing something special, a great community event or effort. Can you tell us more about that?
Terri Smith: Yeah, everybody is aware that Windsor had the big
tornado fiasco last year and with all the foreclosures in the market and
everything, we learned that all of the agencies that helped homeless animals
are really struggling up there. They
were just filled to capacity and they needed some help.
Interviewer: And what agencies were those that...?
Terri Smith: Well, we ended up supporting five
agencies. We have the Humane Society of
Weld County, we have Second Chance Rescue, we have Duncan's Place, a cat sanctuary, we have
Animal Rescue Connection, and then we just recently added Dalmatian Rescue. So, we work with those five agencies and it
has been real interesting.
Interviewer: So, how does the program work? So, you are helping get the animals adopted,
but how does the program work for the public?
Terri Smith: Well, we have been giving the agencies an opportunity
to get the word out that they need help and that they need to get these animals
adopted because they are just overflowing and so what we have done is we have
done several events, we did the pet fair that the Greeley Chamber of Commerce
put on, then we have also established a radio program, an opportunity for them
so that they can go live on the air with the pets in the morning and talk about
the pets to the public and the DJ right there at the station and it has worked
really well. We have had... we average an
adoption every time somebody goes on there.
The DJ himself has adopted two pets.
So....
Interviewer: And what's that website?
Terri Smith: That radio station is the Pirate Radio,
107.... 104.7 FM in Greeley. So....
Interviewer: Okay. So,
they can go on down there to find out more information or go to the...?
Terri Smith: Actually, if they want more information, they
need to log onto our office website, which is homesofnortherncolorado.com.
Interviewer: Okay.
Terri Smith: We have a price list pets portion there and
very soon we are going to have a PayPal account tied up to this too to help us
raise funds.
Interviewer: So, if you are up in the Greeley area or even
in Northern Colorado and you would like to help out and adopt an animal, not
only people need homes, but animals need homes, go out and check that website
and you will also see here on metrobrokerstv.com. Terri, thank you for coming down and speaking
with us today and it was a pleasure.
Terri Smith: It's my pleasure. I just wish we had more time. I could go on on this topic for quite a
while. [laughs]
