The Scoop on the Second Annual Metro Brokers Triathlon, from Organizer Mike Bradley

Interviewer: I'm Kathy Soltero with Metro Brokers TV. Today in the studio we have Mike Bradley. He is the broker owner of Metro Brokers Eagle View Properties and today he is going to be talking to us about our Metro Brokers Triathlon. Tell me about, first of all Mike, what is Metro Brokers Triathlon Friday all about?

Mike Bradley: Well Metro Brokers Triathlon Friday is in its second year this year and will be held on June 4, 2010 at Cherry Creek State Park. It's a sprint-distance triathlon which means it's a half-mile swim, a 12-mile bike and three-mile run, followed by a catered dinner and a party.

Interviewer: It sounds like a great time.

Mike Bradley: It is.

Interviewer: Why is Metro Brokers hosting a triathlon?

Mike Bradley: We wanted to kind of gear our events towards a younger market and really show that Metro Brokers is a Colorado-based company and we have good ties into the community. So we stepped away from the golf tournament atmosphere, where it's closed off and there is 60 people play all day. A triathlon allows us to open up state-wide, even expand outside the borders of the state, get that new audience and show them that we are unique, but we are here for Colorado and hundreds of participants come and do a triathlon and then the word spreads, and year and year it just gets bigger. So it seemed like a natural fit.

Interviewer: And last year there were how many of them?

Mike Bradley: Almost 200.

Interviewer: That is amazing for a first year.

Mike Bradley: Just for a first year. Yes.

Interviewer: That is - so you expect a lot more this year?

Mike Bradley: We are hoping to have at least 300.

Interviewer: Wow! That would be huge.

Mike Bradley: We are on pace to do that right now.

Interviewer: All right, well what makes this Metro Brokers Triathlon Friday so unique, you talked about its uniqueness?

Mike Bradley: Yeah, the thing that really makes it unique is that it's on a Friday. It's 6 p.m. on Friday versus all the other triathlons, pretty much crack of dawn. You got to get up at four in the morning, get your bike on the car get out to wherever it is. This allows you to work all day or work a half day...

Interviewer: And then go to triathlon.

Mike Bradley: And do triathlon, then you got your whole weekend free. And then we follow it up with a full catered dinner from our fantastic sponsor, Lodo's Bar & Grill. They bring out burgers and hot dogs and there is beer and it's a party atmosphere. So you get all done and then you got the rest of the weekend. And that's one of the coolest things about this event, plus it's one of the very first triathlons of the entire season. June 4th puts us, I think, the very first open water triathlon in the Denver Metro area of the year. There is some the very next day, but we are the very first ones with an early season.

Interviewer: That's awesome.

Mike Bradley: It's great and its tri, go ahead.

Interviewer: Okay, so now if somebody wants to register for it, where they can go?

Mike Bradley: MetroBrokersTriathlon.com, everything is online. You can either, print out the registration form, mail it in or go online and do it right there. It's very easy, all the information, the race maps, all our sponsors and everything is linked up right there.

Interviewer: What's also so great is you said Friday it starts and then you have the rest of your weekend. It sounds like a great time. Is there anything else you want people to know about it?

Mike Bradley: The other thing, the most common question's probably about the temperature of the water.

Interviewer: It will be chilly, right.

Mike Bradley: It is, outside temperate is about 80 degrees in June. You never know, in Colorado we could have tornadoes one day and then 90 degrees the next. But the most common question is, what's the temperature of the water? And it's cold. It's 58 degrees last year, was the temperature.

Interviewer: It's invigorating, right?

Mike Bradley: It certainly is. So it can also lead to problems, so we've partnered with WetSuitRental.com to get discounts on wet suits. And it's not a requirement at that temperature surprisingly, but it's highly recommended that you have a wet suit, and so we got that discount, so now it's at least warm and safe.

Interviewer: All right, so if you are interested in going out to the Metro Brokers Triathlon Friday it's June 4th, coming right around the corner.

Mike Bradley: That's 75 days away.

Interviewer: And you can go register online. It's really easy.

Mike Bradley: Exactly.

Interviewer: Thank you so much, Mike, for joining us today at Metro Brokers TV.

Mike Bradley: Okay, thank you.

Mike Bradley finds that Inman Connect Conferences have been invaluable in Metro Brokers success

Metro BrokersTV:  Welcome to Metro Brokers TV.  We are at the Inman Connect in San Francisco, 2009.  I am with Mike Bradley and Mike is the Chair for the MetroBrokers Technology Committee and Michael welcome to the show.

Mike Bradley:  Hi thank you Mark.

Metro BrokersTV:  Hey just to wrap up here, we went through three days real quick give away you can give our members out there and what you took from this year's Inman Connect?

Mike Bradley:  Well it seems this year the themes more of what's really working, there have been a lot of ideas over the last few years have come out, not all of those are still here, but there are things that are actually useful tools converging the video applications, social networking, mobile platforms all into one platform that actually does something, that actually isn't just an idea, just in for a market but its more in use, in the trenches and resulting in profitable results you know.

Metro BrokersTV:  Yeah so we are talking about return and investment, those technologies that agents and companies are using and people are actually getting leads, converting leads and making money.

Mike Bradley:  Exactly and just at this conference I got my first lead on Facebook while we were in a conference last night and was a friend from my school I haven't talked to him for 20 years and as I... there you go perfect application of social networking merging with mobile technology.  I have got Facebook on my iPhone, got the lead responded within minutes had a dialogue during the conference; I am showing on in two weeks.

Metro BrokersTV:  Yeah well that's really what that in a nutshell that's what it's about isn't it?

Mike Bradley:  That's exactly what it's about; you either have an iPhone, last year's conference after attending on like maybe I should get that technology, something like that based for itself right there.

Metro BrokersTV:  Yeah actually last year's event Brad was talking about the iPhone as the device not necessarily iPhone is a brand but that type of hand held mobile device to have.

Mike Bradley:  Yeah and then we saw things like augmented reality where we can hold up the phone and see a house maybe with a different [Inaudible] and all the data available to it right there on the overlay and this is coming down within a couple of years this is scary stuff but its very cool too.

Metro BrokersTV:  Any insight that you can take away as far as Chair for Technology at MetroBrokers that can help our organization?

Mike Bradley:  Well I think we are actually ahead of the curve in a lot of this, some of the things I saw today we are already doing and we just got to continue to innovate and take the ideas from here and act on them before anyone else does if we want to stay on that cutting edge.

Metro BrokersTV:  Great well once again Mike great to having you here you always had good information and hope to see you here next year.  For more great information about MetroBrokers our culture in our company make sure to go to metrobrokerstv.com.

Mike Bradley Founder of Metro Brokers First Annual Triathlon

Metro Brokers TV:  And this is Mark Eibner with Metro Brokers TV and we are here at the first annual Metro Brokers Triathlon in here, and we are really here with the founder; Mike, congratulations.

Mike Bradley:  Thank you very much Mark.

Interviewer:  So, did you ever think a couple of springs ago when you came up with the big audacious idea of a Metro Broker triathlon would ever materialize?

Mike Bradley:  Yeah.  I had never had doubt, but this is great, seeing all these people out here; it seems be going very smoothly.

Interviewer:  Oh, yeah.  All the... everyone is liking the venue.  So, I just want to know how you got to be number one, but you came in 46th?

Mike Bradley:  I started 46th, that's why[Phonetic].

Interviewer:  Oh, is that what it was?

Mike Bradley:  Yeah, definitely.  I was the first to register, so you get number one.

Interviewer:  You definitely an inside... inside avenue there.

Mike Bradley:  You bet.

Interviewer:  So, you have been in some other triathlons then right?

Mike Bradley:  Yeah, I have done a couple.  This is my first of this year though.

Interviewer:  Without being prejudiced, how do you think the Metro Brokers one compared to some of the ones you have been in?

Mike Bradley:  So far, this is just as smooth as anything I have seen.  You know we have got the dinner afterwards.  We will see how it ends at the night.

Interviewer:  Yeah.  Is that pretty typical for triathlons as far as like food and beer and stuff?

Mike Bradley:  The ones I do, yeah.

Interviewer:  Oh!  You stick with the food and beer ones.

Mike Bradley:  I always make sure there is a meal and something to drink after, definitely.

Interviewer:  Yeah, well, great job.  I think everything has been pulled off.  It's been smooth; number one, number two winners have been real pleased with the venue.

Mike Bradley:  Super.  That is the best we could ask for.  It will just get bigger every year.

Interviewer:  You bet.  Where do you think we want to take this next year?

Mike Bradley:  300 to 400 people.

Interviewer:  And your goal this year was 200?

Mike Bradley:  200, I think we came right around there.

Interviewer:  Yeah, I had had heard 180 and there were about 16 walk ups.

Mike Bradley:  Yeah, that is fantastic.

Interviewer:  Congratulations Mike.  A great job man.

Mike Bradley:  Thank you very much Mark.  Thanks.

Jay Holliday Finishes Triathlon on Team Event and Loves New Metro Brokers Annual Triathlon

Metro Brokers TV:  And this is Mark Eibner with Metro Brokers TV.  I am here with Jay Holliday and Jay, congratulations; you are finished.

Jay Holliday:  Oh, yeah.  I am nearly dead.  I was waiting to get my first social security check, but it is not too far behind.  So, I thought we did great today.  Maria was awesome.  We had Hanna [phonetic] as the swimmer.  She did awesome and we are doing real good.  I had to slow down a little bit you know because my legs and stuff, I am getting old, but I am still tougher than most you know.

Interviewer:  Hey watch... you know, you have been a past president and everything.  Did you ever think we would have something moving or a triathlon venue versus say golf tournaments?

Jay Holliday:  Sorry Mark if I am a little sweaty, but I think this is a great venue.  You know first year for this, I think that it's probably a promising thing, especially for years to come and hopefully, you know we will have great success and I know it is a great venue for Special Olympics and all our other contributors that you know that we contribute to.  So, hopefully it can continue on.

Interviewer:  Yeah.  I think this is something that could grow into... the goal this year of 200 participants was met and I talked to Mike Bradley earlier.  He was looking... thinking about 300 or 400 next year.

Jay Holliday:  Well, you know it's possible.  I mean... we have got a great concept.  we have got a great company and you know we will see a lot of our signs everywhere and we are starting to really grow and I think events like this really help us too.  I think the realtor community comes out.  We have had a lot of people to support Special Olympics and it's probably going to help us grow.

Interviewer:  Well, we appreciate you participating too Jay; great job man.

Jay Holliday:  Yeah, next time I want to see you... you out there.

Interviewer:  Well, if you go over and look at... if you go look at Chris Djorup, you would see where I would end up.

Jay Holliday:  Yeah, yeah I know.  He has got some big guns, that is for sure.

Interviewer:  Thanks Jay.

Jay Holliday:  All right.

First Annual Metro Broker Triathlon Coordinator Ian Adamson Calls Event a Success

Metro Brokers TV:  And this is Mark Eibner with Metro Brokers TV with Metro Brokers first triathlon and I am here with Ian Adamson.

Ian Adamson:  That is right.

Interviewer:  Ian, welcome.

Ian Adamson:  Thank you.

Interviewer:  I guess you worked with Mike Bradley pretty closely putting this together.

Ian Adamson:  We did.  We worked really closely.  He was... his goal was to put together a different event.  So, we came up with a format that was slightly unusual and gives a little bit more back to the athletes and of course, with the charity aspect, makes it a special event.

Interviewer:  Yeah.  So, how many of these venues do you put on a year then?

Ian Adamson:  I have put on a couple of hundred races over the last decade.  I was a professional athlete for 12 years.  So, I compete in a lot more races and then had a transition into directing in 1999.

Interviewer:  Well, based on the feedback I have got from everyone here today, it's been a really a spectacular event especially for a first time event.

Ian Adamson:  It is.  We are very happy with the event.  First time event, it's a good turn out, weather is great, everyone was safe, had fun, volunteers were fantastic, we have got great sponsors and food and as you can see everyone is enjoying it.

Interviewer:  Yeah, well Metro Brokers and Special Olympics, we really appreciate you working with us putting this together.

Ian Adamson:  That is my pleasure.

Interviewer:  You are going to be working with us next year then hopefully?

Ian Adamson:  Absolutely.  I would love to work with you next year.

Interviewer:  Great.  We appreciate it Adam.  Thank you very much.

Ian Adamson:  Thank you.
