There were 63,000 more people at work in December 2011 than in December 2010, hitting a five year high.
"December 2011 was
the sixth month in a row showing a positive year-over-year change in total
employment." said Ryan McMaken of the Colorado Division of Housing. "This
followed 33 months in a row of negative job growth in year-over-year
comparisons."
The data was collected through the Household Survey compiled by the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment,
based on the number of people who stated they are actively looking for work and
does not include those who have stopped looking entirely.
"Discouraged workers who have stopped looking for work are excluded."
says McMaken. "On the other hand, the Household Survey picks up on small
business and start-up employment that may be missed by the Establishment
Survey, the other commonly-used measure of employment."
