Metro Brokers Triathlon Huge Success for Charities

Kathy Soltero:  I am Kathy Soltero with Metro Brokers TV.  Today we are on to the second annual Metro Brokers Triathlon at Cherry Creek Reservoir, couldn't ask for a better day, supporting Special Olympics and Adaptive Adventures, let's hear from some of the athletes.

Tim Holathe more fun races I have done only because it's at night, it's a good set up of sponsors or race directors.  It's just a good way to end the week to be honest and still have room to these stuffs on weekends as well, so it's a great start.

Sean O'Neill:  It's great it's on a Friday night you know its fun, afterwards good race.

Kathleen Allen:  It was fun; it was that I have never done a Triathlon at night before.  So its different routine and we are still waking up at 4 o'clock in the morning to go race and little different to try and have that pre race meal at 2 p.m instead of 3 a.m.

Mark Harrison:  I feel really good second year in a row.  I improved my time, got my wife to join this year and do it for the first time just another great event and I am kind of amazed at a bunch of real estate brokers can get together and as you can see put on an event that 200 triathletes want to come and join, so its real fun.

Bob Luna:  It is very exciting second annual one, turn out was incredible, we hardly had any no shows, you couldn't have asked for a better weather than what we have today.

Interviewer:  You know it is such a great event to have it on a Friday night, I keep hearing that over and over again from everybody and that's probably you are doing.

Mike Bradley:  Yeah it's from those who don't like to wake up early, I don't like to wake up early and all the triathlons were in the morning, so this worked out great the said we only allow evening events in which that's what we are looking for.

kathleen Allen:  Perfect.  In Australia last year in September I was honored to be on team USA I qualified and was able to go over to Gold Coast, Australia and compete and I finished sixth in my age group which was a huge, huge, huge accomplishment for me.

Kathleen Allen:  I was actually involved in a serious accident two, almost three years ago in August of 07.  I was training for the world championships at Hamburg Germany in five days before I was due to depart, I got hit by a truck and I broke my neck at C6, my back at T8, T10, T12, I broke both my wrists, I broke a rib.  I was in intensive care for a week I had a blood clot in my carotid artery, my right leg went out, I had six surgeries in my right leg and there was quite a bit of talk about losing my leg and when I was in ICU my husband made a phone call and he made a phone call to a dear friend of ours named Joe Berman and Joe Berman happens to be the man who started the charity Adaptive Adventures.  Joe Berman has been a friend of ours for years and my husband called him to say "They are talking about amputating my wife's leg and she loves to compete, could she compete as an adaptive athlete if they take off her leg?" and Joe said "Yeah we will take her on our team' and so even when I was in ICU my husband believed in me and he believed that I would raise again and spent a very long road back.

Mike Bradley:  We got on to Adaptive Adventures this year on top of Special Olympics because they provide more volunteers, more kayaks, more water and there is smaller Colorado based charity that are our donation really impacts them more than Special Olympics.  So it made sense to bring them in and we also got a tie with a Lodo's Bar and Grill, our primary sponsor so that it worked out really well.

Trish Downing:  I think it's great to have this as a benefit for Adaptive Adventures I mean that organization does such great things for people in chairs and bringing adaptive sports to all kinds of populations.

Matt Feeney:  Well this is quite a turn out here, this is our first year involved in the event and we are excited about it, lot of people, lot of excitement in the air, lot of good athletes, our fast Pascoe is on bikes and in the water and running as well.

Mark Harrison:  It's a Friday night you know and I think it speaks for itself when you can get a bunch of people together and get out and obviously raise money for two great charities and just get out and enjoy Colorado and that's what Metro Brokers is all about.

Bob Luna:  It's just amazing to see the determination the people had to complete this I mean they are out there doing it and I was [Voice Crossover] hats off to every last one of them.

Kathy Soltero:  There you have it, another successful year here at the Metro Brokers Triathlon at Cherry Creek and we are all looking forward to a third year next year.  I am Kathy Soltero with Metro Brokers TV.
