MetroBrokersTV : Metro Broker founder Larry Carr, says The concept is still as good now, as it was ever was. We
are privileged today to really have an industry icon, Larry Carr. Larry Carr is with Metro Brokers and I wanted
to do this interview with Larry, because Metro Brokers is in fact a very well
known company in the State of Colorado
here and you were one of the original founders some 30 odd years ago. So, why do not you tell us really what got in
you to start something like Metro Brokers?
Larry Carr: Well, the Metro Brokers concept was designed
to allow us as individuals to work in a big company environment and yet maintain
our individuality. So, we patterned the
Metro Brokers concept after what some of the attorneys and CPAs and doctors do,
which is an office sharing arrangement and ours became office sharing, experience
sharing situation that enabled us to present a big company image and yet have the
individuality of being our own broker, and that became the foundation of Metro
Brokers.
MetroBrokersTV : Well, how long have you been in the business Larry?
Larry Carr: I have been in the business 34 years.
MetroBrokersTV : 34, so, back then it was contracts were on napkins right? You did do them on napkins?
[Phonetic]
Larry Carr: The first contract that I signed was one page and
half of that was a signature line.
MetroBrokersTV : Now, back then, how many were you? There were six of you that started the company. You remember the names?
Larry Carr: Yeah, Mark, actually there was... we had one
agent who was
Mark Channon, we had Jake Carell, we had Bill Anderson, John Bagnal, Bill
Solensky[phonetic] and myself, I think that is it.
MetroBrokersTV : Well, I think a lot of people don't know that
really Metro Brokers started out as a commercial entity. You guys were tired of paying the high fees to
the Grub and Ellis and whoever else, right?
Larry Carr: Right. Right.
It is and it works so well, because not
only is it the expense sharing valuable, but it gives us more buying power in
the market in terms of advertising. We get
good rates from The Post and The News and other vendors and I think the real
key in the Metro Brokers concept is the experience sharing.
MetroBrokersTV : Did you ever think or you never really planned
for Metro to be around, how many years now 32 years, 32 - 33 years, what did
you think when?
Larry Carr: It was just setup as a system to accomplish
our goal, which was just to earn a living and we had no anticipation that Metro
Brokers would grow to the level that it has grown, but that says a lot for the
system for one thing and then secondly, it says a lot for the fact that we have
over the years had tremendous flexibility in adapting to the different markets
and we operate with an all volunteer board and we have people donating their
time without compensation to help further the Metro Brokers concept.
MetroBrokersTV : What about the future? What are you hoping from Metro Brokers in the
future? What do you see?
Larry Carr: I see Metro Brokers continuing to expand. The concept is still as good now, as it was
ever was. We are constantly striving to
improve not only our technology, but our ability to deliver the final product
to the consumer.
MetroBrokersTV : Great.
Well, it has been a real honor talking with you Larry and I appreciate
you stopping by for the interview today. Thank you very much.
