Housing starts are up and have exceeded economist expectations. The annual rate was 598,000. These numbers were primarily due to construction of condos and apartments and not by single family homes. This story supports earlier statements that apartment rentals are up and single family home rentals and purchasing is down.

For the future outlook we see an increase of new building permits of 2 percent and was better than expected at 569,000.
