Successful Second Generation Metro Broker Agent Owner Greg Hinkson

Kathy Soltero:  Welcome to Metro Brokers TV, I am Kathy Soltero.  Today we have the distinct pleasure of having Greg Hinkson with us today from Metro Brokers Hinkson and Company and Greg, tell me a little bit about your company first of all.

Greg Hinkson:  I started off with Metro Brokers; I started underneath my mother who had been with Metro Brokers for 30 plus years.  She has been an agent since I was five years old and I came on with her, started working underneath her, and got all my training with here and with Metro Brokers and have since taken over she has retired and I have taken over the business and continued on working in the Denver Metro Area as well as where I grew up which was Northglenn, Colorado.

Interviewer:  And your specific location she started up in Northglenn?

Greg Hinkson:  She started up in Northglenn where I was born and raised.  I still do up 40% of my business up there, but I have since moved down to Denver and specialized a lot in the older Curtis Park, Park Hill neighborhoods, neighborhoods around Denver.

Interviewer:  Now you have really kind of a unique situation since you took over your mother's Metro Brokers Company, tell us a little bit about that.

Greg Hinkson:  Well I think I am different in the fact that most people will start off with a larger company and try to get some training that way and move on then potentially to somebody like Metro Brokers.  I started with Metro Brokers underneath my mother.  The one thing I would say I believe it's not such a watered down version of real estate.  You kind of start and learn in the trenches you really understand you are not, you are learning more one on one, you are not getting a classroom training, you have somebody that you actually go to the field with, learn as it goes.  So I think you get a real perspective of how real estate is and are better and more you know better equipped to handle real estate as you grow in your business.

Interviewer:  Obviously when you are starting out real estate its kind of intimidating to think, oh, I don't want to go it alone, I don't want to go into one of these companies that you know its only one or two people in there I want to maybe be with a few others that sort of thing, but I think Metro Brokers actually offers a larger group of people too.

Greg Hinkson:  Absolutely.  In my office for instance in Northglenn we have many agents that I can communicate with, we bump questions off each other certain situations.  Its just like being another agents, larger agents except if you are not relying on one broker you have many brokers with as much experience as that one broker and some of your larger companies and you can bounce it off of numerous people like that and get a very good answer solid way to handle things in that point forward if you have a sticky situation or something that comes up.

Interviewer:  Now you said that your mother's business is 30 years or so you took over after 30 years with Metro, she was about 30 years with Metro Brokers and she mostly focused in Northglenn and up in that area and now you say you've moved down here quite a bit too?

Greg Hinkson:  Yes I have years ago about an old Victorian down in Curtis Park and because I live in the neighborhood, watched the neighborhood and grown some in the neighborhood, I started to specialize down there as well it's a new place that I love and plan to continue living.  So I have moved a lot of my business there but I still handle a whole lot in Northglenn, Thornton because I again was a native born and raised and know it like the back of my hand.

Interviewer:  Absolutely that's great.  Well what can you tell other brokers if they are considering moving over to Metro Brokers, why should they do it?

Greg Hinkson:  Experience, its I don't think you can go to any other company at least in Colorado and get the experience in one office that you can into Metro Brokers.  You have numerous employing brokers in some cases, independent brokers, the years involved in an office of real estate experience into Metro Brokers I think far exceeds any of that I have heard of anyway and you are not relying on one person for their answer you can get a pool of people with a ton of experience and get an answer from all of them.

Interviewer:  All right oh Greg I am sure you have got tons of experience especially with your mom's experience behind you and all that sort of thing, how much did that translate as far as her clientele coming over to you?

Greg Hinkson:  It's more than you think it's really, it's hard to gauge exactly but you know because you will get one client which offers three more clients which of those offer three more clients.  So it really does trickle down I think a lot of people expect to gain 30 deals in a year and it doesn't really work that way you get some deals as it goes five years down the road all of sudden somebody calls and says I worked with your mother 20 years ago and my daughter now wants to buy this and that, very hard thing to track but I think if you really did track you would understand it's a whole lot of things that progress and grow over the years just like any other referral.

Interviewer:  Right well Greg thank you very much for joining us.

Greg Hinkson:  Thank you.

Interviewer:  Metro Brokers Hinkson and Associates on Metro Brokers, TV have a great day.

Greg Hinkson:  Thank you, you too.
