Allstate Insurance Company ranked Ft, Collins, CO as the 2011
"America's Safest Driving City" winner of its annual study. This is the second
year in a row for Ft. Collins to win this honor.
"Drivers in Fort Collins are making great progress toward
keeping America's roadways safer," said
London Bradley, Allstate's west central regional sales leader. "We salute Fort Collins' best drivers and recognize their safe driving skills, which make all of our communities a safer place to live, work and raise families."
According to the report,
the average driver in Ft. Collins will be in an auto accident once every 14
years, this figures out to be 28.6 percent lower than the national average of
once every 10 years.
Auto crashes in general have declined over the last few
years, but crash fatalities still average more than 32,000 every year despite
technological advances, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety
Administration.
"Human behavior is the biggest cause of accidents. It
is vital for us to educate American drivers about safe driving behaviors they
can demonstrate on the road that will help make our roadways safer," said Mike
Roche, executive vice president of Allstate Claims. They advise drivers to
minimize all distractions including cell phones, texting, changing music, and
even putting on make-up.
How did other Colorado cities fare in the results? Colorado Springs
ranked 11th safest, Denver was No. 51 and Aurora was No. 60.
