Economy Continues to Cripple Housing Market

In Larimer County average incomes are 29 percent lower than the areas median income levels. The new demand for low income housing is outweighing the supply because in 2009 alone more than 8,000 homeowners and 13,000 renters made less thank $22,559. Here is a case where the economy continues to cripple the housing market. Colorado is a place that has not felt the economic meltdown as bad as others, but these numbers show we are feeling our share of it.

Colorado is developing new low income housing, but this is unsustainable according to Chadrick Martinez, development director for the Fort Collins Housing Authority. "I think we have seen an increased demand. We've always had a demand, but over the last two years, there's more interest," Mr. Martinez stated.

There is no doubt that Colorado has seen its share of the economic down turn, and some places have had it worse than others. We should count our blessings however, there are still places in our country that have it much worse. Peoples lives are dependant on the economy turning around, lets hope it happens soon.
