| Deadline Looming for EPA Lead-Based Paint Certification |
|
By April 2010, at least one employee must be certified, follow specific work practices and keep detailed records in any company doing work in homes built before 1978, in compliance with the new Lead: Renovation, Repair and Painting Rule from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
To meet this need, the Custom Electronic Design & Installation Association (CEDIA) has announced that it is offering a simple and cost-effective solution for companies that must comply. In cooperation with the National Center for Healthy Housing (NCHH) and other EPA-accredited providers, CEDIA is now offering a Certified Lead Renovator course. The two-part course includes both an online component and a hands-on component, then providers must pass the final exam to become a Certified Lead Renovator.
Through this training and certification, exposure to lead will be minimized, and those not in compliance face a heavy fee: beginning April 22, they risk penalties of up to $32,500 per violation, per day.
