Adaptive Adventures Thanks Metro Brokers

Matt Feeney is the founder of Adaptive Adventures, an organization which provides outdoor sports opportunities to improve the quality of life for children, adults and veterans with physical disabilities. Matt speaks to us from the 2012 Metro Brokers TriathlON Friday event at Cherry Creek State Park

Interviewer:  Hi I'm Kathy Soltero with Metro Brokers TV, we are talking today with Matt Feeney, he is the founder of Adaptive Adventures. Matt congratulations on how things are going here.

Matt Feeney:  Oh, thank you very much, we are just thrilled to be a part of this event, we can't thank Metro Brokers enough for putting this on, and, you know, having us be a part of it.

Interviewer:  Matt this is the third year you guys have benefited from the Triathlon Friday, what do you think about this year?

Matt Feeney:  This is a great turn out, after talking to Mike, I think there was over 250 participants this year, which is huge, I can't thank Metro Brokers enough, the event gets getting better and better every year, we are just thrilled to be a part of it.

Interviewer:  Tell me how the money gets used.

Matt Feeney:  Well the money gets used to run programs here in Colorado for people with physical disabilities, winter programs include skiing, obviously, and in the summer we have kayaking, you might have seen some of the kayakers out there helping out, with the swim portion of the event, we also do cycling and water-skiing, and rafting as well in the summer.

Interviewer:  Do you actually have any participants here today?

Matt Feeney:  We had, not racing, not in the race, we had recruited one and he was a no show unfortunately.

Interviewer:  But we have in the past, we have seen him here.

Matt Feeney:  Yes in fact it was Paul Martin was here last year, and he is a world record holder for amputees, in triathlons.

Interviewer:  So to see something like this really, I'm mean to see like the growth and that sort of thing gives you a lot of optimism.

Matt Feeney:  Absolutely it's great, and I take that back, there was one gentleman who is in a wheel chair here, and he just did the swim portion, he did the bike portion last year, the swim portion this year, next year he is doing the whole thing, so that was pretty cool to see him out there as well.

Interviewer:  And so that's kind of what Adaptive Adventures is all about, is trying to get these guys and these women athletes back out there right.

Matt Feeney:  Absolutely children, veterans, wounded warriors; we look at a lot of the veterans that are coming back from Iraq and Afghanistan. They have sustained serious injuries, and we try to get them back out doing things that are important to them.  They are a big part of their lives, and it makes them feel whole again. So, you know, it's been going great and we really appreciate the support that you have given us.

Interviewer:  Awesome well congratulations, thanks so much.

Matt Feeney:  You are welcome, thank you.
